Technical information / Planning instructions To guarantee faultless functioning and a smooth installation and connection process, you should defi nitely consider diff erent local conditions when planning your requirements! Water connection – drinking water A basic distinction is made between drinking water and fresh water. Should you require drinking water, the following regulations must be observed: Defi nition of drinking water according to the Drinking Water Ordinance of 2019, Section 1 (3) para. 1, no. 1 (excerpt): “For the purposes of this Ordinance, the term ‘drinking water’ shall refer to water in any physical state of water, irrespective of whether the water is intended to be supplied by tap, in water transport vehicles, from drinking water storage tanks on board land, water or air vehicles, or in sealed containers: all water which, in its original state or after treatment, is intended to be used for drinking, cooking, preparing food and drink or, in particular, for any of the follow- ing other domestic purposes: for personal hygiene and washing, for cleaning objects that are intended to come into contact with foodstuff s, or for cleaning objects that are intended to come into contact with the human body on more than a temporary basis. All water used in a food processing facility for the manufacture, treatment, preservation or placement on the market of products or substances that are intended for human consumption.” Thus, drinking water must also be used for cleansing food. Water supply systems from which drinking water is dispensed are not allowed to be connected to water-using devic- es that contain water not intended for human consumption, without a safety device that complies with the generally accepted rules of technology. Main technical problems: Stagnant water in the pipe (without the required water exchange at least once every 7 days) No water extracted for a lengthy period (see Drinking Water brochure of Federal Environment Agency) Pressure loss in public water network (fl ow) All materials used must bear test marks of the DVGW (German Association for Gas and Water) Our underfl oor systems off er the option of a tested drinking water solution as well as a fresh-water connection if drinking water quality is not required. Sewage connection – wastewater It is essential for appliances with a wastewater connection to be connected to the sewage system. Drainage In order to protect the utility room from water and to prevent the underfl oor units from fi lling up, a drainage connection is necessary. Generally, the model with a sewage connection should preferably be installed. If that isn’t possible, the unit can be placed in a gravel bed and “wrapped” in a drainage tube. Important: The coarse gravel bed must be protected from fi ne dirt particles using fl eece, otherwise the gravel bed will get clogged, and backwater will accumulate! Sloping sites need to be given separate consideration! 258
